I don’t know about you, but I have very strong feelings about diets, the plethora of them out there, and the fact that most of them do not work over the long haul. We are fed all this pap about just eat 25 grapefruit a week and nothing else, or just drink black coffee, or tons of cabbage soup (yeccch), and you will be the svelte sylph you’ve always dreamed of being. A fast weight loss diet is a lot of malarky and anyone who tries to tell you differently is not a veteran of the diet morass.
We are gluttons for punishment, those of us who are overweight and feel guilty and despondent because of that fact; so we gear up out will power and start the next starvation round of eating to try and fit into what society says we should look like. But, think twice before wanting to start a fast weight loss diet, because they are only temporary fixes and they do more harm than good.
So what actually happens when you start one of these fast weight loss diet plans is that your body goes into starvation mode and begins to shut down operations to conserve its energy supply. It is essentially designed to do that by Nature when its calorie source is cut down or severely restricted, and it begins to pull energy from the stored fat reserves and from muscles. That’s all well and good, but how long can you keep that up.
There are all kinds of a fast weight lost diet out there, and some of them are downright radical and dangerous. Anything that uses substances to make your heart beat faster and your metabolism to run faster is a potential train wreck—–you may have underlying health factors that will come to the fore when these radical diets are used; and you may have anything happen to you as a result, from the jitters, shakes, strokes, all the way to a heart attack. Yep, you’ll be svelte all right—-svelte and dead.
Just think about it. If you have finally decided that you need to do something about your weight, and you are considering a fast weight loss diet, think again. How long did it take you to put that weight on, months? Years?—yep that’s more like it. So why not go the route that is in tune with the way your body was designed to run and just modify what you are eating, a little at a time over a longer period of time. Your metabolism will adjust to the lesser caloric amount coming in, you just eat more foods that burn hotter and longer; drink lots of water, and get some exercise in there too—and before you realize it, you are losing weight, slowly but surely.
If you are wondering what I am referring to when I talk about a fast weight loss diet, let me give you an example. The diet plans that are monitored by a doctor where you go in and get shots of vitamins and all kinds of other stuff to replace the food you are not eating, are all the rage now. Essentially, they are nothing more than planned starvation. The amount of food you get to eat on a daily basis is just about enough for one meal for a parakeet, and you find yourself chewing on your sleeves the first week. But, you do lose weight, you feel good, you look good, and your vitals have never been better. So what’s wrong with that? Nothing, except almost everyone I know, including my adult son who has gone through the program, lost weight, then went onto a maintenance eating plan and gained almost all the weight back.
When someone tells you they lost tons of weight on a fast weight loss diet where they ate nothing but cabbage soup 24/7; or ate almost nothing but grapefruit and black coffee—don’t listen to them. These diets are dangerous and loopy—they ruin the wonderful way the body works when left to its own devices, you just need to stop putting so much food in your mouth and exercise a little more—-and be patient—-the weight will come off in its own good time.
